Vodafone Romania has selected Ericsson as a key partner to upgrade its radio access network (RAN) infrastructure and roll out 5G technology across the country.

The six-year agreement will see Ericsson provide 5G RAN products and solutions to boost network speeds, reduce latency, and improve reliability for Vodafone customers.

Under the terms of the agreement, Ericsson will serve as Vodafone Romania’s primary 5G RAN partner, deploying its cutting-edge technology to bolster the existing mobile network infrastructure. This transformative initiative underscores Vodafone Romania’s commitment to driving digital innovation and facilitating the transition to a fully connected society.

“Building a future-ready, secure, energy-efficient network is crucial to support a digital society,” said Nicolae Vîlceanu, Vodafone Romania’s Chief Network Officer. “The partnership with Ericsson provides the technological foundations to stand up fast, reliable 5G networks that will have tremendous impact for our customers.”

Echoing these sentiments, Dragos Mircea Rebegea, Country Manager of Ericsson Romania, highlights the transformative potential of their state-of-the-art 5G solutions.

“We are proud to partner with Vodafone Romania in building a network of the future,” Rebegea affirms. “Our innovative technology not only enhances connectivity but also serves as a catalyst for industry transformation, laying the groundwork for a more interconnected digital society.”

Central to the deployment will be Ericsson’s comprehensive portfolio of 5G RAN products and solutions, including the Ericsson Antenna System and Massive MIMO technology. These advancements will help to accelerate Romania’s digital transformation journey, enabling businesses and individuals to capitalise on the myriad opportunities presented by 5G connectivity.

With a focus on sustainability, Ericsson’s latest generation of radios and basebands (RAN Compute) will also contribute to reducing energy consumption across Vodafone Romania’s network, aligning with broader efforts to foster a greener, more efficient telecommunications ecosystem.
