After a decidedly dodgy few days, RIM, under no illusions about the need to reclaim its place in the hearts of business users, has released the full version of its new mobile device management solution Blackberry Mobile Fusion.

It’s been a torrid week for the Canadian manufacturer; a week that included stock write-downs, executive ejections and some poor guy getting stabbed in the neck at a celebrity BBM party in London.

However, the release of RIM’s Mobile Fusion product, announced back in November, should calm the nerves of the firm’s embattled PR folk. The service offers organisations the ability to manage the multitude of different iOS, Android and Blackberry devices they’ve seen flooding in as a result of BYOD policies.

It provides a web-based control centre that allows IT managers a raft of management options, including enabling and configuring devices remotely; granting access and synching to enterprise mail and calendars; and managing lost or stolen devices, password resets, locks and device wipe.

“For businesses and government, managing a mix of mobile devices on any scale is chaotic. Organizations face pressure to allow employees to bring their own devices into the workplace,” said Alan Panezic, Vice President, Enterprise Product Management and Marketing at RIM.

“BlackBerry Mobile Fusion allows organizations to manage a mixed environment of devices in the most secure, simple, and cost efficient manner possible,” he added. “It also means that businesses and government do not have to move to the lowest common denominator on security for all the devices they need to manage.”
