Manufacturing companies have realised the importance of a dedicated wireless connectivity in significantly improving the flexibility, versatility and efficiency of production processes. Deutsche Telekom is offering campus network solutions to its industry customers based on a dual slice approach that combines and integrates public and private LTE connectivity that is often enhanced with a local edge cloud deployment.
OSRAM and Deutsche Telekom are making prototypes and testing mobile robotics solution at the OSRAM factory in Schwabmünchen.
Ericsson will be providing for the campus network system at the Schwabmünchen site. As part of the dual slice solution, Ericsson will also provide the system technology for the special indoor factory coverage and the local core network, apart from being the radio partner for the surrounding public LTE coverage.
Campus network solutions are connectivity and enhanced connectivity solutions for a defined local area that have been tailored for the needs of the customers and use cases prevailing in this area. Throughout, latency, reliability, security, Internet of Things device management and other quality-of-service components are guaranteed based on service level agreements with the customers.
Ericsson has also inked a new deal with Telenor Group to transform its core network in Sweden, Denmark and Norway. As part of the terms of the Network Function Virtualization contract, Ericsson’s full portfolio of network function solutions and related services will be harnessed to utilise Ericsson Cloud Core solutions for 5G across multiple data centres for Telenor.
The transformation will make Telenor more agile as it moves towards launching commercial 5G services using both fixed and mobile access. In addition to improving operational efficiency, it also exposes network capabilities for IoT applications and other potential future services.
