DISH Wireless has announced the availability of its 5G broadband service to over 70 percent of the US population, granting access to more than 240 million Americans.
The development is a significant milestone for DISH and the US telecommunications industry, as the company designed, constructed, and deployed a 5G network within a span of just three years.
DISH highlights that it has also fulfilled all other commitments outlined by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as of June 14, 2023, including the launch of over 15,000 5G sites.
Dave Mayo, Executive Vice President of Network Development at DISH Wireless, commended the efforts of the company’s teams, stating:
“This achievement is a testament to their dedication and commitment as we grow the world’s first and only 5G cloud-native Open RAN network.
We appreciate the continued support and efforts of our partners as DISH continues to lead the industry in Open RAN deployment.”
Notably, DISH has also become the first wireless service provider in the United States to introduce 5G voice service, known as Voice over New Radio (VoNR).
DISH initially launched VoNR in Las Vegas last year and has since expanded its functionality to additional markets. The VoNR service now covers over 70 million people across the US, accessible through both Boost Mobile and Boost Infinite. The company says it intends to continue the rollout of VoNR service as it further optimises the network for this next-generation voice technology.

Customers can access the DISH 5G broadband network through Project Genesis, which solicits valuable customer input on network performance that impacts broader retail wireless users. The service is available to qualifying individuals within the 70 percent coverage area.
Boost Mobile and Boost Infinite subscribers who possess or purchase a network-compatible device can also enjoy the DISH 5G network in over 50 markets nationwide. DISH plans to expand its availability to additional markets throughout the year, along with the introduction of more DISH 5G network-compatible devices.
DISH says it will submit its FCC buildout report no later than July 14, 2023, providing further insights into the company’s progress and achievements in the 5G landscape.
