Payment gateway providers CreditCall’s Chip and PIN payment processing app, CardEase Mobile, has been rolled out to UK users, as well as to partners and developers worldwide.

CardEase Mobile, which can be utilised on smartphones and tablets, is purportedly the first payment app to process Chip and PIN as well as magnetic stripe card payments.

The product is EMV certified – or in other words has been approved by Europay, MasterCard and Visa – and works in conjunction with a merchant account and PIN pad from partners Elavon and Sage Pay, utilising encrypted Bluetooth for data transfer.

Sian Bosley, CreditCall commercial director, said in a statement: “There has been a barrage of mobile payment solutions hitting the market recently that all have a major flaw – they aren’t able to accept Chip and PIN, which is essential in the UK.

“We are very proud to announce that CardEase Mobile is now available globally,” she added.

CreditCall had previously been in partnership with Elavon to create Elavon MobileMerchant released back in May, which was the world’s first mobile payment app allowing businesses on the move to utilise Chip and PIN on Android and BlackBerry – however, this was also only UK based.

This is another intriguing piece in the payment apps puzzle.

Back in July Deutsche Telekom AG, the second largest telecoms provider in Europe, was reported to be in apparent talks with Google over collaboration with its Wallet service, with Wallet near field communication (NFC) friendly.

However, the well has run dry since, with the only source of this story being an interview with DT head of innovation Thomas Kiessling.
