Research firm IDC has identified AT&T, BT, Orange, and Singtel as leaders of the next-generation telecom service providers in Asia Pacific (APAC).

The findings, which appear in the company’s latest report, titled IDC Telecom MarketScape for Next-Generation Service Providers 2016-17, argue the four leaders showed a strong regional network presence, comprehensive suite of enterprise cloud and managed ICT service offerings, diverse portfolio of services in areas such as IoT and collaboration in the region, as well as a large base of mid and large-sized enterprises, multinational corporations, and government clients across APAC.

The group of “leaders” is closely followed by “major players” in the market. Major players include regional service providers, such as Telstra and NTT Coms, along with global service providers including Vodafone, Verizon, and Tata Communications. GCX has been classified under the “Contenders” group.

IDC lists a variety of credentials in order to become successful in the APAC market. Vendors must have a well-rounded portfolio of cloud services powered by secure cloud connect offerings, as well as a comprehensive suite of managed security offerings. Companies also need a wide range of enterprise mobility, M2M, big data and analytics solutions, as well as be able to leverage software-defined networking and virtual network services for internal and external efficiencies.

Orange was in the news last week after the company confirmed a collaboration with Facebook to support a new accelerator designed to support startups focused on network infrastructure development.
