Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has announced an open source programme, called the Open Distributed Infrastructure Management initiative that aims to streamline management of large-scale geographically distributed physical infrastructure deployments.
The Open Distributed Infrastructure Management helps telecom companies in resolving the complexity while deploying 5G networks across thousands of sites equipped with IT infrastructure from multiple vendors and different generations of technology. The initiative, launched in collaboration with Intel and with support from key industry leaders including AMI, Apstra, Red Hat, Tech Mahindra and World Wide Technology, highlights HPE’s continued leadership in open 5G technologies and commitment in expediting industry alignment through open source innovation.
Together with Intel, HPE intends to initiate an open source project under the Linux Foundation to further develop the initiative together with ecosystem partners to allow end-to-end automated management of networks. HPE has also introduced its enterprise offering, the HPE Open Distributed Infrastructure Management Resource Aggregator that aligns with the initiative.
The aggregator offers key innovations that will benefit other telecommunication solutions, including the recently introduced HPE telco core and edge infrastructure blueprints. Delivered as-a-service with HPE GreenLake, these infrastructure offerings provide telcos an accelerated platform for rolling out 5G service across multiple sites.
This time last year, Intel, Google and Microsoft were among nine tech giants that teamed up to launch a new industry group to advance data centre performance. The group also includes Alibaba, Cisco, Dell EMC, Facebook, HPE and Huawei and aim at solidifying Compute Express Link (CXL), an emerging high-speed CPU-to-device and CPU-to-memory interconnect.
