The ETSI Open Source Mano group (ETSI OSM) has announced the launch of its latest OSM release to deliver production-quality open source management and orchestration for network function virtualisation (NFV).
Among the new features in the latest iteration include enhancements for scalability, performance, resiliency, security, and user experience relating to its adoption in production environments.
“With a new role-based access control, OSM release three enables users from different service providers to access the OSM system with the appropriate set of privileges,” the company writes. “It facilitates the adoption of complex operation workflows without compromising the security of the network or its operations.”
In a white paper accompanying the release (pdf), the main architecture of OSM is outlined, as well as going through the enhancements in greater detail. Describing the release as ‘another significant milestone along this path’, the group argues that operators should consider this release as sufficient for proof of concepts and field trials.
“OSM release three provides a highly functional and reliable component for NFV orchestration that enables all industry players to accelerate their deployment plans, with no need to change their target architectures for NFV infrastructure or OSS transformation,” said Francisco-Javier Ramon, chairman of the ETSI OSM group in a statement.
