BAE Systems has been awarded an £89 million contract to design and manufacture a cutting-edge deployable tactical Wide Area Network (WAN) named ‘TRINITY’.
The contract with the prominent defence and aerospace company will deliver secure and state-of-the-art battlefield internet connectivity to the UK armed forces.
Dubbed a Design and Systems Integration Delivery (DSID) contract, this five-year endeavour aligns with the Prime Minister’s economic growth priorities by creating 60 new jobs in Dorset, UK.
BAE Systems, along with its collaborative partners – including L3 Harris, KBR, and PA Consulting – will not only develop and deliver advanced network capabilities but also foster UK skills across the supply chain.
TRINITY’s resilience lies in its innovative design—a network composed of interconnected nodes that can seamlessly exchange and relocate data within a secure environment. In the event of nodes being compromised during warfare, the remaining nodes dynamically reroute to ensure optimal network speed and uninterrupted information flow.
Scheduled to replace the incumbent Falcon network, which is set to retire in 2026, TRINITY brings a transformative edge to the UK Armed Forces’ land operations. It facilitates quicker interaction with allied forces, both within national boundaries and as part of international coalitions
Armed Forces Minister James Heappey said:
“In this continually evolving, multi-domain environment it is vital that our personnel have access to world-leading communications capabilities while on operations.
We remain committed to working closely with the best of British industry as they support our endeavour to better connect with our allies and their assets in theatre.”
A substantial portion of the £89 million allocation will be channelled into the research and development phase of the TRINITY programme, with delivery projected to commence in December 2025.

TRINITY is a pivotal component of the Land Environment Tactical Communications and Information Systems (LE TacCIS) programme.
LE TacCIS aims to usher in the next generation of tactical military communications within terrestrial environments, ensuring that UK armed forces remain at the forefront of technological prowess and strategic readiness.
