Cisco continues to dominate switching and router market – with NFV and SDN on the horizon

The global switching and router market continues to be led by one company, according to the latest analysis from Synergy Research.

Cisco’s share of the total market was 51%, with particular dominance in the enterprise routers section, where it holds 63% share, Synergy added. For Ethernet switching, Cisco still held more than half share, and for service provider routers Cisco held 38% of the market.

Small cell market saw ‘solid’ growth in 2016 with indoor deployments key

Global small cell rollouts delivered strong double digit year-over-year growth to the market last year, with 1.7 million units shipped and $1.5 billion in revenue, according to a research note from IHS Markit.

The research firm has released its H1 2017 “Small Cell Equipment Biannual Market Tracker” report, which contains data and analysis for the half-year ended December 31, 2016. Units shipped saw 43% growth year over year, compared to 26% for revenue figures.

Altice joins up with Cisco and Red Hat, bets on NFV for future roadmap

MWC Netherlands-based telco Altice has announced the continuation of its alliance with Cisco with the long-term aim to build a ‘holistic network function virtualisation (NFV) platform’.

Ericsson launches ‘first mover’ 5G platform and announces milestone
