Enabling the benefits of network virtualisation through smart data

During the past decade, the telecoms landscape has changed dramatically. The emergence of OTT players has eroded service providers’ voice and messaging revenues, with reports suggesting that the widespread adoption of OTT messaging and VoIP services will drive losses of $386 billion for the telecoms industry between 2012-2018.

At the same time competitive mobile operators have moved to unlimited data...

Moving towards intelligent network security with software defined networking

In today’s era, enterprises have started focusing on the network much more than before due to the evolvement of cloud computing in business operations. To migrate to cloud, a massive amount of changes in the design of the network, as well as an emphasis on security aspects related to network and data, is required.

As the utilisation of these new technologies is increasing, new challenges will arise that will demand a highly automated and secure network.

Exploring the roadmap of fully ‘zero touch’ NFV for 5G networks

We are all aware of the fact that the world is moving towards intelligence-based automation. Emerging technologies, like artificial intelligence and machine leaning, will be playing a key role in making network more intelligent. The journey towards a ‘zero touch’ network is started with a need by telecom service providers to couple with digital innovation and incorporate their efforts in the upcoming fifth generation (5G).

But automating deployment and managing operations in largely distributed...

A guide: Finding choice in the software-defined labyrinth

Getting to the heart of how software-defined networks (SDN), and software-defined wide area networks (SD-WAN) can benefit your business and the options they provide will improve your IT networks. But currently, not all companies are getting their heads around the technology.

The reality is that SDN, and related technologies are at the heart of next generation networks. SDN delivers a new network architecture, one where the intelligence of the network is controlled centrally by software, enabling greater...

Leave your appliances behind: How to overcome challenges in moving to a cloud-centric network

Ecosystems, APIs, open source software, agile development, COTS servers, programmable network; these are some of the attributes of the cloud that service providers plan to leverage by using technologies such as software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV).

Service providers plan to move from closed appliances to open servers and software components. However, making this move requires a significant change in thinking, acting, and probably choice of suppliers. As a result, some...
