Vodafone is hot on Ooredoo's heels with plans for 5G services 

Vodafone is not far behind its rival Ooredoo in deploying 5G services in Qatar, with the expectation they’ll launch before the end of the year.

Last month, Telecoms reported Ooredoo launched its first 5G home broadband device following the Qatar-based operator’s launch of the world’s first commercial 5G network in May.

Sprint’s ties with Huawei may complicate T-Mobile merger

Congressional lawmakers want the pending Sprint–T-Mobile merger examined over the former's possible Chinese government links.

Huawei appears to cut research funding in Australia

Huawei appears to be cutting research funding in Australia as it continues to face problems in the country over national security fears.

The company’s Australian financial reports show a drop in research spending from $81,000 in 2016 to zero last year. For comparison, back in 2015, the company spent $8.3 million – and $10.1 million the year before that.

The company denies any reduction in research spending.

AT&T can scale FirstNet towers and upgrade to 5G with a software update

AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson has claimed upgrading the company's FirstNet towers to 5G will just require scaling them and performing a software update.

India signs three MOUs with UK institutions to maximise 5G benefits

India has signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) agreements with leading UK academic institutions to hasten 5G deployment and maximise its benefits.

The UK institutions which signed the MOUs are King’s College, University of Surrey, and the University of Bristol. Academics will share their expertise and research with the Indian government-owned body C-DOT, the nation’s telecoms technology development centre.

Cybersecurity firm Symantec has exposed Chinese hacking of satellite communications and telecoms in the United States and Southeast Asia.
