Rival vendors Nokia and Ericsson are setting aside their differences and collaborating with SK Telecom on 6G research.

The rollout of 5G is just gaining traction but already some are looking at what shape the next generation might take.

SK Telecom has announced it’s collaborating with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power to develop 5G solutions for smart energy plants. Both companies are South Korea’s largest in their respective fields.

Huawei seeks $1 billion from Verizon for over 230 patents

Huawei is seeking over $1 billion from US telecoms giant Verizon relating to over 230 patents.

The beleaguered Chinese vendor claims Verizon owes the cash in licensing fees. A Huawei intellectual property executive wrote Verizon should pay up to “solve the patent licensing issue".

Patents in question range from core network technologies, IoT, and wireline infrastructure.

AT&T and Uber have established a partnership aiming to solve congestion in major cities using 5G-powered flying taxis.

Nokia claims it’s overtaken Huawei in 5G contracts

Nokia appears to be capitalising on Huawei’s struggles and has benefited from increased 5G equipment orders in recent weeks.

The Finnish vendor has landed 42 commercial 5G orders which puts it ahead of rivals Huawei and Ericsson.
