The rise of OTT applications and the threat to SMS

It has been said on more than one occasion that SMS has had its day.  According to Informa, the volume of OTT messaging traffic is set to be twice that of Person-to-Person (P2P) SMS messaging by the end of 2013, and with over 19.1bn OTT messages sent last year, OTT applications are beginning to have a substantial impact on SMS traffic and revenue.

Apple brand loyalty drops behind Samsung in South Korea

It’s another day, and that means another Apple versus Samsung story. Between ongoing patent disputes and court cases; a new report from Samsung’s own home turf of South Korea shows less than promising brand loyalty results for Apple.

According to DIGIECO, a group affiliated with Korea Telecom, 53 percent of 416 iPhone users surveyed responded they would not continue to use Apple’s smartphone line.

Telecoms provider T-Mobile teases “Our boldest moves yet.”

Mobile network provider T-Mobile has teased an event being held on July 10th in New York City simply entitled, “Our boldest moves yet.”

Apart from pondering over this intriguing tagline; little can be gained from the invitation. The image is entitled “moonshot” to which we can only speculate its meaning.

It could simply be a reference to taking a wild shot, or a “bold move”, although a quick Google search shows up Janet-led initiative “Project Moonshot.”

Microsoft partners with Telefónica to boost WP against Android and iOS

Although gradually rising, Microsoft has had nowhere near the success with Windows Phone the Redmond-company had surely hoped by this stage.
