Majority of one billion 5G users in 2023 will be China-based, says CCS Insight

China jails man selling VPNs to circumvent its ‘Great Firewall’

China’s notorious internet censorship doesn’t appear to be loosening anytime soon as a man gets nine months in jail for selling VPNs.

The recently unveiled court decision revealed Deng Jiewei, a 26-year-old man from Dongguan, was sentenced for selling two VPN services on his website. He reportedly made nearly 14,000 yuan (£1642) before he was detained by police last August.

China Unicom gets investment support from Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu, and more

China Unicom has signed a deal with several of the country’s major technology brands, including Tencent, Baidu and Alibaba, with overall investment of $11.7 billion (£9.1bn) coming into the operator.

5G edges closer as China Mobile announces large-scale testing

China Mobile, alongside partners Qualcomm and ZTE, has announced plans to conduct large-scale 5G tests based on specs being developed by 3GPP.
