MWC: 49% of US connections will be 5G by 2025

A report from the GSMA, released to mark the start of MWC Americas, predicts 49 percent of US connections will be 5G by 2025.

North America is a global leader in 4G adoption and the GSMA anticipates the nation to make a similar rapid transition to 5G. While around half of U.S connections are expected to be on 5G by 2025, the report expects adoption in Europe and the leading Asian markets(China, Japan, and South Korea) to be around 30 percent.

SoftBank and Huawei combine to demonstrate 5G use cases

SoftBank and Huawei have announced a variety of potential use cases for a 5G network.

The use cases include real-time UHD video transmission using ultra-high throughput of over 800 Mbps, remote control of a robotic arm using ultra-low latency transmission and remote rendering via a GPU server using edge computing to the company’s business partners.

SK Telecom inching closer to 5G realisation with low latency technology and repeater

Fixed wireless 5G to hit $1 billion in service revenues by 2019

Fixed wireless access (FWA) 5G subscriptions could account for $1 billion in service revenues by the end of 2019, according to a new report from SNS Research.

Verizon, Ericsson and Qualcomm announce record 1.07 Gbps Gigabit LTE lab speeds

Verizon, Ericsson and Qualcomm have announced a new record on its Gigabit LTE testing, with speeds of 1.07 Gbps being recorded in its latest lab trials.

The speeds were achieved through using 12 simultaneous LTE streams – enabling up to a 20% increase in peak data rates in capacity, as well as greater speed – through Ericsson’s radio system and TLE software, and a mobile test device based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X20 LTE modem.
