As far as demonstrations of 5G technology go, Vodafone’s is definitely among the most unique.

Vodafone UK launched its 5G network in seven cities yesterday – Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool, and London.

To demonstrate the power of 5G, Vodafone recruited the brute force of professional rugby players from Wasps Rugby.

One Wasps player, Juan De Jongh, was in London and fitted with a Teslasuit which provides full body haptic feedback. A second player, Will Rowlands, was in Coventry and tackled a padded cylinder fitted with sensors.

De Jongh was able to feel the tackle in real-time despite being over 100 miles away.

“I’ve never experienced anything like this. It felt like something from the Matrix. This technology could not only help athletes to train, but to get back into training after injury,” comments De Jongh.
