Amazon Web Service suffers outage

Amazon‘s cloud offering suffered a brief outage this week causing a break in service to parts of America’s East Coast, shutting down a number of sites including Netflix, Reddit and Foursquare.

European services were also disrupted as lightening struck a data centre in Ireland’s capital, Dublin.

The Amazon Web Service was restored quickly after a half hour break but the incident was reminiscent of a similar disaster suffered by the organisation in April which lasted for two days.

Five top Cloud trends for 2012

As Cloud computing becomes less of a buzz word and more the norm for forward facing organisations, we take a look at five trends tipped to be hot in 2012.

A recent poll by research firm Gartner revealed that worldwide Cloud adoption is growing at an annual rate of around 17 percent while industry surveys show 50 percent or more of organisations polled have implemented some form of cloud computing.

Survey reveals CIOs' lack of confidence in the Cloud

A new report has revealed that confidence in the security of cloud computing is at an all time low.

The study by SunGard Research, published last week, surveyed 250 UK chief information officers (CIOs) and found that a paltry 10 percent were “completely confident” when it came to security and resilience of third party cloud offerings.In addition, a further lack of trust was cited by two-thirds of those polled who had already experienced downtime for cloud applications.
