Missing: 2000 US wireless industry jobs

Despite a booming industry over the past few years, the number of jobs in the US wireless industry has waned, according to figures from the US Bureau of Labor.

In June, citing data from the Bureau, the WSJ reported that the industry recorded 166,000 jobs with US wireless carriers, the lowest figure for 12 years and down on last year by a massive 2000.

However, since 2006 the industry’s overall revenue has rocketed by 28%.

Apple App Store Downloads Hit 15 Billion

A recent press release from Apple has stated that over 15 billion Apps have been downloaded from the App Store by more than 200 million iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users worldwide.

The App Store now has more than 425,000 Apps, with over 100,000 of these being native iPad Apps and available to consumers in 90 countries.

US Mobile Gaming Consumption

Gaming continues to be the most popular App category amongst US consumers according to research conducted by Nielsen.

Smartphones Now Majority of New Phone Purchases in US – Nielsen

The US smartphone market is continuing to grow, states the latest survey from Nielsen.

According to Nielsen’s May survey, 38 percent of the mobile consumers in the US now own smartphones. 55 percent of those who purchased a new handset in the past three months stated they had brought a smartphone instead of a feature phone; up from 34 percent a year ago.

40% of European Smartphone Buyers Eyeing Up iPhone

40 percent of European smartphone buyers intend to purchase an iPhone as their next device according to a preview of an upcoming report from the Yankee Group.

This compares to 19 percent for Android devices, 17 percent for BlackBerry devices and 15 percent for Nokia devices.
